Stovetop, Pot (small), Citrus juicer, Peeler, Knife

Orange

Step 1

Using a veggie peeler, peel long strips of orange zest. Then juice the orange.

Pear

Step 2

Peel the pears, leaving the stems on.

Red wine
Orange
Sugar (granulated)
Cinnamon sticks
Star anise

Step 3

In a pot over low heat, combine the wine, sugar, cinnamon, star anise (optional), a couple of orange peels & the orange juice. (Whole cloves & allspice berries are nice too!) Bring it to a simmer.

Step 4

Add the pears to the pot. Cover & simmer for 7 min.

Remove the lid & turn over the pears. Simmer for another 5-7 min.

Step 6

Remove the pears with a slotted spoon. Set them aside on a plate. Continue to simmer the spiced wine until it reduces into a syrupy sauce.

Step 7

Serve the pears sliced in half & drizzled with the wine reduction. Garnish with cinnamon, orange peel & star anise. Enjoy!
